The leading ladies of “Laverne & Shirley” are reuniting.
Nickelodeon said Wednesday that Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams will guest star in an episode of its new sitcom “Sam & Cat.”

The actresses starred as 1950s and ’60s pals and roommates Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney, workers in a Milwaukee brewery. The sitcom aired from 1976 to 1983 on ABC.
“Sam & Cat” features Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande as friends who start a baby-sitting business.

Nickelodeon says Marshall and Williams will start filming on Wednesday. They play characters involved in a decades-old feud, tweaking the long-ago rumors of a “Laverne & Shirley” rivalry.

“Sam & Cat” creator Dan Schneider says it was an honor to write for what he called TV’s” funniest female roommates” ever.

The series premiered June 8 at 8 p.m., averaging 4.2 million total viewers, up 76 percent over last year. In the all-important — for Nickelodeon — 2-11 demo, the “Sam & Cat” premiere posted a 6.2 rating, a 103 percent improvement over last year.

The new series stars former “iCarly” star Jennette McCurdy and “Victorious” vet Ariana Grande, reprising their roles from their respective series. In the spinoff, the pair become best friends and roommates who start a babysitting service. “Sam & Cat” was created by Dan Schneider, who executive produced “iCarly,” “Victorious” and fellow Nickelodeon series “Drake & Josh” and “Zoey 101.”"

Despite strong counter-programming directly against us, the debut of Sam & Cat broke the 4 million barrier… with 4.2 million total viewers!

Sam & Cat swept kid, tween and teen demos as number-one on Saturday, June 8th, among Kids 2-11, Kids 6-11, Tweens 9-14, and Teens 12-17. Among its target audience, the show raised last year’s levels by triple digits and handily beat direct competition by high double digits.

By Sunday morning, Sam & Cat hit the #1 spot on all of iTunes! That’s not just for Kids TV… but for all TV shows on iTunes…
