Welcome to the wild world of Ariana Grande. One of the hottest up-and-comers in music right now, thanks to the smash-hit success of her debut album, Yours Truly, Grande’s been sent around the globe in order to promote it, zipping through Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, New York, and Japan in a matter of weeks.

In Amsterdam, Grande was mobbed by fans when she tried to make her way through the airport. “I never want to be the person who avoids my own fans, so I always try to stop and say hi,” she says. “But it turned into a big mosh of people, and it became quite dangerous. I got sent to the police station, and they told me not to come back to that airport!” Later, so many fans camped out to see the singer that the manager of her hotel dubbed Grande a safety risk and forbade her from going out on her balcony to wave to them. “I just went out anyway,” she says. “I said, ‘You can’t stop me!’ That’s one thing to get in trouble for: loving your fans too much.”

Despite being literally surrounded by people, she confesses to a little loneliness. “I didn’t know that I was capable of going to so many places in so few days,” she says. “It’s really hard for me and my friend Alexa, because she’s in school and she doesn’t have the flexibility to come visit me on the road whenever she wants. But whenever she’s on break, I try to fly her in and keep her with me as long as I can. It’s funny; one time I tweeted her school in Gainesville, like, ‘I’m keeping Alexa!’ And they tweeted me back: ‘All right. Make sure she does her homework.’”

More from Ariana’s interview:
On being a positive role model: “I think I’m an old soul. What excites younger people doesn’t excite me… I’m kind of a boring, normal girl who likes Harry Potter and to sit in her pajamas and sing. A lot of my friends are partiers, but I’ve never really clicked with that. I like Barbra Streisand, and when was the last time you saw Babs getting, like, turnt up? That’s kind of the road that I, as a lady, would like to go down.”

On dealing with her Twitter haters: ”Oh, they’re evil as hell! I don’t even block them anymore, because I feel like it’s giving them negativity in return. So I just let it happen and forgive them and move on. Those people are fighting their own battles.”

On her first date with Nathan Sykes, the youngest member of British boy band The Wanted: ”“We were going back to his hotel to watch a movie, and he had Ladurée macarons and sunflowers waiting—I love Parisian baked goods, and sunflowers are my favorite flower. He had taken the DVD player out of the bedroom and into the living room, because he said he didn’t want to take me into the bedroom on the first date.”

Still, when your life moves as fast as Grande’s does right now, nothing’s guaranteed (except that whatever happens will be fodder for another hit song). Maybe that’s one reason she remains wary of going too public with her relationships. “Sometimes people get too fixated on what people are going to say,” she says, recalling the grief she got when she Instagrammed a friendly kiss from former tourmate Justin Bieber. “At the end of the day, you’re in a relationship because you love that person, not because of what other people think.”

On making a name for herself in the music industry: “I never really expected to be taken seriously as an artist, and it’s just been the ultimate, proudest achievement. I’ve dealt with a lot of people not knowing what to expect from me because of my age and my personality. People often mistake my kindness for weakness, and they didn’t expect much from me, because at the end of the day, I’m just a nice Italian girl from Boca.”

Intervju med Miami Herald

"Boca Raton native Ariana Grande is on the rise.

The 19-year-old sped closer to stardom last week, as her catchy Mariah Careyesque single The Way, which features Pittsburgh rapper Mac Miller, went platinum, with more than a million copies sold.

Grande has already made appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Late Night with Jimmy Fallo n, even singing Payphone alongside Maroon 5’s Adam Levine.

“Since I performed it [ The Way] live on Ellen, the nicest thing people are saying is that they’re excited I’m a real singer, that I don’t fake my singing,” Grande said.

The song bears a strong resemblance to R&B diva Carey, as Grande’s poppy vocals pair nicely with Miller’s raps, giving the song a ’90s R&B crossover vibe. Carey embraced that role throughout her career.

Grande even did a cover of Carey’s 1991 hit single Emotions last year, paying tribute to a “queen,” in her words. She said the comparisons are “the biggest compliment in the world,” but she wants to be her own artist.

“I try to just sing how I sing,” Grande said. “As a new female artist who is viewed in the industry, you always have to be compared to somebody. . . . It comes with the territory.”

Grande’s new Nickelodeon television show, Sam & Cat, has a similar take on the past. Grande reprises her role as Cat Valentine from Victorious, while iCarly’s Jennette McCurdy continues as Sam Puckett.

In the series, which premiered June 8, the two girls live together as roommates. But their day jobs as babysitters provide for plenty of unique situations that play out like a modern-day Laverne & Shirley.

Despite the newfound success, Grande remains humbled.

“I’m really proud. I don’t like to speak too heavy about my own work,” she said.

Still, history will be an important element of Grande’s new album, which she describes as “cool, soulful, groovy, feel good” music. Due out in early August, the yet-to-be-named album will also have some ’60s moments and ’50s style duets, according to Grande.

“It’s surreal,” she said. “I’m very, very excited.”

And do not think Grande has forgotten her South Florida ties. She recorded a Spanglish version of The Way, despite considering herself only 70 percent fluent. Grande said it was something she “always” wanted to do.

The album was about three years in the making. Grande calls the music side of her life a “passion.” She even sang the National Anthem before a Florida Panthers game at age 8.

“I think I’ve finally found what I’ve meant to be doing,” Grande said. “I hope my Florida fans will be proud of me.”

Oh, and she also has a summer tour in the works, with one particular stop in mind.

“[I’m] definitely making it to Florida,” she said."

Just Jared Jr Intrevju

04

JustJaredJr: So how do you like being in NYC?

Ariana Grande: I think I’m more of an LA girl, but I like New York.

Jennette McCurdy: I would say the same thing. New York is my favorite place in the world to visit. I love the energy of the city and knowing that I’m getting on a plane to New York feels so good.

JJJ: Tell us about the Sam & Cat theme song – your fans are dying to know! Do you sing it?

AG: We don’t sing it. Michael Corcoran sings it, who did the theme song for iCarly and all the songs on Victorious.

JM: Basically, Dan Schneider, the producer, he asked us ahead of time if we wanted to sing and we just didn’t want to. We wanted to make a show that was funny and that really focused on one thing, and entertaining kids. Our music definitely does that too, but we kind of wanted to keep it separate.

AG: And every other show is musically-driven now, since Hannah Montana, so we wanted to do something classic, a classic TV show. And the vibe of the theme song, the first time you hear it, it sounds like a classic.

JJJ: We know you guys are really close. What was your first impressions of each other?

AG: “Wow, she’s the coolest.”

JM: I thought Ariana was so fun and so friendly to people. It was at a promo shoot and Nathan [Kress] and I were hanging out, and she came right over, gave us hugs, and was like, “Hi! I watch iCarly.” I told her I looked up one of her songs, “Stick Around.” I told her she had an amazing voice. We started talking about iCarly and we found out we have the same birthday, we were singing “Jingle Bells” together. It was good memories.

AG: It was fun! I was like, “Oh my gosh, Mom, Jennette is so cool!”

JM: You called Nathan and I “babies.”

AG: That was my thing back then. I called everyone “babies.” Like, “Oh my god, that’s babies.” It made no sense, but at 14, that was like the cool thing to me.

JJJ: The show is about two girls who start a babysitting service together. Have you ever babysat before?

AG: I’ve never babysat, but I have enough babysitting experience now for the rest of my life.

JM: We are acting indeed, but there are still young kids everywhere, who have never done acting before, who have no idea what a camera is. But they’re adorable.

JJJ: What was it like working with Sophia Grace and Rosie?

JM: They are the smallest living humans I’ve ever seen.

AG: They are also the smallest full-grown adults.

JM: They are so mature, smart, professional, talented.

AG: They have the biggest hearts. They are so appreciative.

JM: Granted, they are normal, little girls. But at the same time, they have all that.

AG: They never complain.

JJJ: What about love interests on the show – what can you tell us about that?

JM: I hope so at some point. We haven’t yet, but we’ll probably dive into that as the season goes on.

AG: I have to establish that Robbie and Cat are something.

JM: That’s cute.

AG: I think Cat always has been and always will be desperately in love with Robbie (Matt Bennett), whether they express it or not, whether they confirm it or not. They are always holding hands and they’ve kissed a couple times. Cat always runs away from Robbie, but she loves it and she loves that he chases her. She can’t stand seeing him with other girls, and I think she loves him. I don’t think I can picture Cat being with anyone but Robbie.
